Based in Orange, California, Dr. Grace Walker, physical and occupational therapist has treated patients at Walker Physical Therapy and Pain Center since 1982. Committed to continual professional development, Dr. Grace Walker is a longtime member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

AOTA recently celebrated the repeal of the Outpatient Medicare Therapy cap. On Feb. 9, 2018, President Donald Trump signed into law a budget agreement that fully repealed the limit on Medicare outpatient occupational therapy and physical therapy services. The repeal now means that Medicare beneficiaries who were at risk of being denied outpatient Medicare Part B therapy services, particularly those who had crossed or were close to crossing the $2,010 therapy cap, can now receive those services.

For over two decades, AOTA has been advocating for the repeal of the therapy cap on the grounds that it denied persons with severe illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and multiple sclerosis the therapeutic medical services they needed. The repeal was aided in part by a 2017 study by AOTA demonstrating that patients receiving high-level therapy had lower overall health care costs. This inspired a bipartisan proposal that was agreed to by Congress in the fall of 2017, paving the way for a repeal of the therapy cap.
