A physical and occupational therapist with four decades of experience, Dr. Grace Walker serves as the director of Walker Physical Therapy and Pain Center, where she provides a comprehensive array of rehabilitation services. Also an active member of the larger rehabilitative field, Grace Walker belongs to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), which recognizes occupational therapists (OT) during OT Month in April.
OT Month celebrates the role occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants play in helping people participate in important activities and regain control over their lives. Using holistic and customized approaches to evaluation and intervention, OTs help children with disabilities to attend school and aid elderly individuals in maintaining their independence. AOTA established OT Month in 1980, scheduling the annual event for April to correspond with the organization’s Annual Conference and Expo.
The AOTA provides an assortment of resources and materials to promote the occupational therapy profession and spread awareness of OT Month. Individuals, groups, and organizations participating in the celebration can download promotional materials and access tips for addressing the media and talking to the public about the role occupational therapists play in health and society.
